The existing video we copied was 'Teenage Dirtbag' by Wheatus(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jJVRcCdvyY) Setting up the Camera:To do this we had to learn at first how to use the cameras. Some of the setting our teacher told us were: Mountin to the Tripod - particularly useful for zooming, panning and tilting the camera. The tripods we use have a spirit level wich enables positioning the camera to an extract horizontal. Settin the White Balance- Before filming we have to make sure that the white balance is set to adjusts the lighting in order to make white objects appear white in photos. Automatic white balance is the function that improve picture quality in variable light settings. When filming outside we have to ensure that the white balance is set to 'Daytime Filming'otherwise the footage might have a blue tinge to it.When filming inside we have to set the white balance to 'Artifical Light'. Manual setting: When using the Canon XM2 cameras we have to use the manual settings to adjust the exposure and not let the camera run on auto. The exposure can be changed using a combination of the Shutter Speed,Aperture and Gain.We have t make sure that we always set the white balance when turning on the camera. Manual exposure 1/100 Shutter speed 1/12 to 1/2000 Aperture/iris F stops- Brightness of image Before starting recording we must press the middle big button 3 times in order to access the above settings. It should come up with '3/3' on the screen. Then it goes back to the main controller-the left arrow shows white balance settings. Camera Techniques: Normally the camera is set to a standard frame size of a ratio of 4:3.Although it can be changed to be like a widescreen film - 16:9 ratio. We can also use Depth of Field to centre the audience attention on a particular part of the frame when the rest of the shot is blurred. This is called a 'Shallow or Narrow Depth of Field'.If all the frame is in focus that is called a 'Wide Depth of Field' We also had to learn how to use the camera safely. After use we have to turn the camera off and take the tape out. We've been also instructed how to put the camera on the tripod safely. It's important to be patient when setting the camera up as it's not an easy job and it takes a bit of time. Shooting script was given to us so we can see what shot we have to take and make notes whether it's been good or bad and how to improve it.Clapperboard is also needed so when it comes to editing we can see what number shot was better than the others. The most important thing is the communication between people when making the video.Everyone should contribute to the video, help and communicate with the rest of the group. Then the filming will be enjoyable and the work will be done quicker.
Here is an upload of the video our group created during the first week of filming lessons:

Blog 6 Video Analysis
The first video I've decided to analyse is 'Wake me up when September ends' by Green Day.It's the fourth single from their seventh album 'American Idiot' and it lasts for over 7 minutes- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NU9JoFKlaZ0&ob=av3e
'Wake Me Up When September Ends' video has a mixture of band performance and narrative.
The music video begins with a long shot of a teenage couple in a middle of field looking happy and in love.

There is no music during the introduction of the song so the audience can get into depth with the story. The boy and the girl talk about how much they love each other and how they will always be together. This is reinforced by the close-ups which underline their facial expressions and the smoothness of the scene.Their body language shows the strong relationship they have-the way they hug, kiss and deeply look at each other. The ambient sound of the birds singing emphasizes the peaceful moment.

As the opening of the song begins, the camera slowly begins to zoom.It then cuts to an extreme close-up shot of the leader of the band. The hair covering his eye and the low-key lightning suggests he is feeling anger and fear.

The close-ups,mid-shots and low-key lightning underline the main themes of the video-love and war.The predominant dark colours and the scenes which are kind of slacked add up to the realism of the song.
As the song gets to it loudest moment, there is a huge explosion. This is to show the struggles deal with when in the army. The music video sends a clear message to the male audience that they need to take a big step and serve to their country.

This video has 6 374 324 views from all over the world. The Audience map shows that this video is being watched in America the most.Countries like England,Italy,Germany and India have also got a high number views. The video is most popular within teenage males and females aged 13-17 and males aged 18-24.This might mean that teenagers are influenced by Green Day style and attitude.

The second music video I've picked to analyse is 'Last of the American Girls' by Green Day again. It's the 5th single from their 8th studio album '21st Century Breakdown'.Here's a YouTube link to the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HR8Ia6vyV5Q&ob=av2e

The beginning of the video introduces the audience to a house, with details of the living room and the kitchen. The low-key lightning and the hand-held camera convey an image of a messy place.
It then cuts to leader of the Band singing in a desert and the rest of the band at the background.

The narrative of the video is the story about a girl(also 'the last of the american girls').She wakes up in a bed in the middle of nowhere with all the furniture around her. She's doing her daily things such as brushing her teeth, reading a book, taking a bath, listening to music, etc. However it seems like she is living in another world-one without any hold backs. The two dancers look rather alienated and they are just there to add up to the chaos. This appeals to the audience as they would like to see the kind of girl who doesn't care about anything.Nearer the end she blows up a car with her hands imagining she holds a gun. This suggests that she's a rebel and males like dangerous girls. The video alternates between the band playing and the girl, who also appears in the video for '21 Guns'.

According to YouTube Map for this video,it has been mainly watched in America, part of Canada and Europe countries like England,Italy,France. Some people from Russia and Australia have also seen it but in Africa and parts of Asia almost nobody has seen the video.
It's most popular within teenagers both males and females aged 13-17 which also suggests that they are inspired by Green Day's rebellious style and attitude.Males aged 45-54 have also enjoyed this video.
