At the end of the first year we had a few introduction classes to A2. We watched a documentary of the worlds best videos and analysed some of them.
Here is the analyse of the first video I picked:
'Crazy in love' by Jay Z and Beyonce
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6HPJJjqvG0&ob=av2e .
It's a fast song about love and adrenaline and the audience is usually female teenagers aged 14-18 who are fans of pop/ r&b music and want to have Beyonce's look and attitude. She's represented as a rude r&b and extravagant girl who doesn't care about anything and nothing can stop her because she is 'crazy in love'.
The second video I've chosen to analyse is 'Thriller' by Michael Jackson: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_MuUcxHATo&ob=av2e
This was number 1 video of the documentary. The audience of this video will be young people both males and females. It's about teenagers going through changes e.g.body changing, transition period. This video normally won't be accepted by parents and older people as it contains horror but this is what made it interesting for young people as it shows something different and in a way dangerous.
The third video is Karma Chameleon by Culture Club:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmcA9LIIXWw&ob=av2e
The genre of this video is dance music from the 80s when people grew tired of the serious music and wanted something new and different. The audience will be people aged 20+ as teenagers still wanted the heavy sound. This video could link with the gay culture as the guy singing wears make up which suggests he's gay.
The last video I've picked is Don't Speak by No Doubt:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TR3Vdo5etCQ&ob=av2e
The target audience is usually female teenagers as the song is about love, breaking up and friendship issues and they're often a problem in teenagers' life. The genre of the song is rock and we could see this as the band play on a guitar throughout the whole video and on stage.
